Dr. Alok Kumar Das is probably the youngest to become a Pro Vice Chancellor of a University (Singhania University, Rajasthan) and he may well also be one of the youngest to have become Dean Academics (Gurgaon College of Engineering). He has also been a Member (again the youngest) of the Drafting Committee of a mega project of Government of India – the New Linguistic Survey of India (NLSI). He also has the distinction of having been nominated by the Commonwealth Foundation and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, for the prestigious Commonwealth Fellowship, UK/ Canada – 1999, for doing Ph.D. in Linguistics (English). He is also one of those few linguists who have been invited fully sponsored by the University of London to participate in Endangered Languages Documentation Training Program at School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (13-17 June 2005). He has many peered research publications in acclaimed International Journals such as Journal of Philology, Indian Linguistics, Language Forum, etc. and in a number of edited books published from the UK, Spain, Latvia, and Malaysia, just to underline a few of his research disseminations. Besides undertaking academic travels to England, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the USA, etc., Dr. Das has been teaching English, Linguistics, Hermeneutics, Journalism, Personality Development, Tourism, Management, Area Studies, International Politics, etc. He has regularly been invited to participate in various discussions/ interviews on BBC, Doordarshan (National television of India), and All India Radio.

This all started when he became the youngest Debating Club Convener at just 17 at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He completed his Ph.D. in Sociolinguistics from the same University in the year 2003. A Baccalaureate summa cum laude in Arabic Language, a Masters in Linguistics, an M.Phil. in Sociolinguistics, Dr. Das is truly a man of letters. Having command over many languages, he can fluently speak English, Hindi, Urdu, Maithili, Bhojpuri and has acquired commendable competence in languages such as Arabic, Sanskrit, Russian, German, etc. Having conducted extensive linguistic fieldworks in places far and across (Russia, Malaysia, Germany, and various parts of India), he has spent about over six months in the impregnable Andaman Islands while documenting the nearly-extinct Great Andamanese language.

Living in Germany for three years and some hundreds of days with the most ancient people on Earth in some most demanding situations truly narrate the extremes of life Dr. Das has lived. As an avid overseer of happenings all around and a keen writer, Dr Das has been writing on an array of issues for various media.

A fiction in English, a poetry collection in Hindi, and a couple of pedagogy books are in publication.
